Minoxidil is a hair loss treatment medication used to relax the smooth muscle in blood vessels in order to dilate it and increase blood flow.
Originally developed as a drug to treat high blood pressure, it has gained fame as a hair loss treatment and been marketed as such.
The most successful hair growth can best be achieved in men between the ages of 18 and 41 however it has been know to work on older individuals and women. Continued use of the product is necessary to maintain any new hair growth.
Side effects may include itchy scalp and an initial shedding period. The hairs that are shed should be replaced by stronger, healthier hair within the following few months.
